The Wedding Feast of Cana is filled with great symbolism and meaning. Many holy priests and prophets over the years have delivered numerous thought provoking reflections on this luminous mystery in the life or Mary and her Son, Jesus.
As a Mother this event always reminded me of the most important role God the Father has given to each and every Mother--
to love, guide and lift up our children to the greatness for which they were born. Our children sometimes fail to see their gifts and succumb to the opinions of others who influence their decisions. Mary is relatable. She knew what God the Father needed of her Son--she was a critical messenger then and today is someone who is there to guide us and love us unconditionally.
Do whatever He tells you is a simple life plan. God has told us in many ways through scripture exactly how He wants us to live. He sent us His son who gave us the Ten Commandments through Moses and invites us repeatedly to
live in Him.
In John 15: 9-11 he reminds us of this in just two verses
"As the Father has loved me, so I love you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commands and remain in His love."
The Wedding Feast of Cana was a celebration of great love--friends surrounded the union of this couple. Jesus was there as a guest with His Mom and his apostles. He was called upon to stop what He was doing and use His gifts to create this miracle of changing water into wine. He even questioned His Mom, "of what concern is this of mine?". Sounds like a very ordinary exchange you might expect of child who doesn't want his fun interrupted! In it's most simplistic form this calling is what we are being asked to do in our own lives. He was following the Father's commands spoken through His mother and miracles were performed.
If we remain in His love we will be ready to act when it's our time to share our gifts and with God's grace miracles will happen. We may not be asked to turn water into wine but the "yes" we offer is indeed miraculous in the eyes of our Father and a Mother who cherishes her role.
Let us all continue to remember the simplicity of the ask. Let's not complicate the future. God knows the plan He has for each of us and He has given us a loving Mother who is so pure, humble and generous with her time as long as we call upon her advice and intercession. She's a woman of few words, but they are indeed powerful and offer life giving graces. She'll always take our intentions to Her Son in the most perfect and motherly way.
