What's Unique About This Book Study?
The Compass Club-Directing the Arrow Toward Peace book is a practical Catholic-Christian spiritual life guide where the image of a compass is used to represent and illustrate us in relationship to God and the world around us. You will be given unique strategies that you can use to strengthen your soul and consistently direct the arrow to only those areas of focus that truly empower you to live your best life each day in more positive ways.
Strategies presented here will keep you grounded in God’s truth when relationships are difficult, worldly influences threaten to rob the sanctity of your home, and past childhood wounds or disappointments surface that force you to manage feelings that perhaps you’ve suppressed from yourself and hidden from those that love you.
The only way to stay hopeful and trusting no matter how much chaos surrounds you is to make better life choices using strategies that have been tested. When you consistently focus on the path leading toward God, you will feel extraordinary peace.
There are seven areas that will direct you back to your core and keep you grounded in faith. By focusing only on those areas that most directly strengthen your soul; you will find a path to life-sustaining peace that really lasts. Transformation will happen when you change your habits. Doing this as a community will empower everyone to be more contemplative and accountable to the action items and suggestions.
Reading this book with other faithful souls will strengthen your resolve to make the necessary changes to enjoy a life worth living to the fullest. The Imitation of Christ reminds us, "If our religion consists in outward observations, our piety will soon come to an end. We had better lay our axe to the root, that being purged from our passions, we pay possess our soul in peace.",( pg 20)
This life guide works.
Why Do This Now during Advent or Lent?
In just 25-40 days you can easily read two pages a day. If you choose to not do the end of chapter exercises—it’s just 87 pages long. If you commit to the transformation and add the 18 pages of chapter exercises—that’s just 2.5 pages a day. You are worth this time. Each day commit to the morning, mid day or evening time period and read just two to two and a half pages and consider reflecting on one of 4 scripture passages. You can easily master this in just seven days!
How to Get Started:
Solo, Virtual, In Person or Hybrid?
Clearly there are more advantages to meeting in person, but if it’s too challenging—let that go. Invite the Holy Spirit into your discernment and find a way to create a situation where you can accommodate your personal needs and those of your group.
Pray now and ask God for direction.
Not everyone or every group will need to meet in person for 7 weeks. There are many ways to connect with a myriad of
technology tools!
What are the Options?
1. Read the entire book alone. Do the spiritual end of chapter exercises and directing the arrow action activities. Don't forget to highlight passages that spoke to your heart. Meet virtually if you want connection or consider an optional gathering after you are finished. If you decide to gather once you've completed the book you can enjoy fellowship with others like you and design a unique faith sharing experience that meets your individual needs.
2. Read just one chapter a week and meet virtually or in person at a time that works for everyone.
3. Read a chapter a week and only meet 2-3 times virtually. Pick the chapters you want to complete prior to each meeting.
Suggested Lent 2023 Timeline:
(Advent 2022 begins November 27, 2022 and ends December 24, 2022:
1 chapter per week for 4 weeks. but continue into January 2023 after holidays)
Why Do This Now?
God, our Heavenly Father is literally suffering as He watches His chosen children struggle so much these days. We can’t control the chaos of our fallen world, but we can choose to live healthfully within it.
Optimal peace can be experienced by adopting the life strategies presented in this book. So many worldly influences threaten our peace every single day--now is the perfect time to focus for just 7 weeks on "putting on the armor of Christ" so we are ready and empowered to withstand any battles that come our way or threaten our tranquility and that of our families.
God can’t work in your soul unless you invite Him in to your life consistently. This book will inspire you to make small adjustments to your daily choices that will offer big dividends in how you experience this life with so many unknowns. You will have a simple guide that is easy to follow that will direct your soul toward peace every single day.
These life strategies will not only heal and empower you, but will profoundly impact all those you love. John 16:33 reminds us that Jesus “has told us these things so that we will have peace”. There’s no better time to really embrace this offer to listen and embrace to “those things” than right now.
Advent and Lent are both great times for reflection and reform. Jesus spent 40 days in the desert--we too can model His behavior and empty ourselves of the world's attachments and focus more on breathing new life into our soul. That commitment will bring miraculous results in as much as Jesus was blessed by the power of the Holy Spirit to begin His earthly ministry and mission when He left the desert.
Let's follow His lead this Advent or Lent.
